MOSF 17.14: Young, Asian American, and All the Feels: Hua Hsu’s Stay True (EAAPAAO Part 2)
Hua Hsu’s Stay True is a memoir about collegiate friendship, but also a cultural and mental health intervention, emphasizing that we stay true to the people in our lives and what truly sustains us. It is of particular interest for Asian American men and those who care about them. This review also contains particular notes for Asian American grief, and some snark thrown at therapists by Asian American memoirists! (December 26, 2022)
A visit to the Whitney Plantation near New Orleans, Louisiana, reminds me of swamps as alternate geographies of freedom for the enslaved, history as a swamp, and the red threads that connects us. (December 31, 2022)
Happy New Year! May you have joy, peace, love, pride and hope in the New Year and beyond! Here’s a pic from my oshogatsu osechi ryori (Japanese New Year) meal yesterday :) I made sure to have a bite of all the good luck offered, and enjoyed time with dear friends. I hope you did as well.
Warmly,
Ravi
