This 8 week compassion training course was initially developed at Stanford’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE). By cultivating mindfulness, self-compassion and compassion towards others, we can develop better relationships with our own mind and even the difficult people in our lives, and give space and warmth to our difficult emotions and experiences. This helps us to heal, and also grow. We’re beset with numerous cultural challenges now, and the problems of unjust power are even more visible than before. By cultivating compassion in community, we can make the internal shifts needed in our culture today. Compassion for others requires resilience and experiential development. It is not simply a cognitive decision. Thus CCT is a process that helps us transform, working with our human vulnerability and reactivity, and generating new brain states and traits that help us cope with stress, anxiety, and suffering, in ourselves and others.
