CAAMFest, Cave Syndrome and benefit meditation for India COVID relief

Hi all,

Thought you would appreciate this film premiering virtually at CAAMFest this Sunday, which I write about in this East Wind blogpost. I also spotlight a few films also involving Asian and Black relations. Most are available for free streaming.

AMERICANISH is the must-see, groundbreaking debut feature from award-winning director/producer/writer and University of Florida Professor Iman Zawahry, one of the first hijabi (hijab-wearing) Muslim American women filmmakers. It premieres as a gala virtual presentation during CAAMFest39’s closing weekend on May 23rd, and has its live world premiere at the Fort Mason Flix drive-in the same day, as a fundraiser for the Islamic Scholarship Fund. I wholeheartedly encourage you to see this film soon!

“AMERICANISH comes as a welcome mirror in a society that has been largely mirrorless and largely distorting for our complicated and still nascent Asian American identity.”
– Ravi Chandra, M.D.

COVID Relief for India

I am one of the facilitators for a COVID relief meditation mini-retreat happening this Saturday. The meditation retreat, also featuring Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer, is free, but there is a link to donate to an organization doing work on-the-ground.

THE BANDAGED PLACE: FROM AIDS TO COVID AND RACIAL JUSTICE

My debut (quirky, experimental) documentary, THE BANDAGED PLACE: FROM AIDS TO COVID AND RACIAL JUSTICE, is having its world premiere at the Queens World Film Festival next month! Details TBA - stay tuned :) Thanks to my SF Love Dojo participants over the last few years - who in effect partly financed the film with their donations. BTW, SF Love Dojo just received 501c3 status from the IRS - so if you're inclined to support my  compassion work, please reach out and we can talk, or you can make a charitable donation here.

Warmly,
Ravi
