i went to brown
and i’ve learned
that brown
is not a safety soul.

brown comes with
risk and woke
waking up
more and more
to the
woke and risk
that
comes with brown.

an asian american
studies prof
once told me
that being
brown
would make
me
a bridge

he was right
but
it meant
getting
stepped on
left and right

a bridge
doesn’t belong
to any side
really
it’s just
in the middle
connecting
one side to
the other side

we
don’t always
want to cross

so i try
being a party
instead

everyone’s
invited

to my
cerebelly

i end up
cleaning
my guesthouse

quite
frequently

i give my
guests
a piece of me

and take
a little
piece
of them

i am in pieces
a moveable feast

everyone’s like this

it’s how we
know
our home

we just feel it
when
everyone’s
here

and we’re
all
ok.

i guess
brown
is a safety soul
after
all
