36 Views of SF: 36+1. Apocalips
May 22, 2016
A smile returned is a tilt-a-whirl
Throwing me into a fit of ecstasy
Needed proof on a cold gray city day
Of inclusion in humanity.
We push each other away
To the partition of peripheral sight
Dread and indifference keep us safe
We create no-fly zones of subtle spite.
But how meaningful it is to breach that wall
To allow the other to matter!
We sometimes feel safer in solitude
But society is sacrificed on that lonely altar.
I smile to strangers, babies, cats and dogs;
It’s my most aggressive flirt!
Only a war of upturned lips
Will apocalypse avert!
