I.
there is
an underground railroad
underground city
shadow city
secret city
home
misfits and bindlestiffs
hopeless lost causes
twice-shot messengers
flee hunger game shit
underground railroad
holdfast safehouse
hideaway of the heart
quiet knowing glances
unassuming affections
unspoken directions
familiar and new faces
trust me to remember
this still
quiet
journey
we’re on.
II.
refuge spider
spins catchfall web
when land’s not right
she sits and writes
weaves web of words
underground railroad threads
silken vows gather, spread
To see more clearly,
To love more deeply
To bring peace to mind and soul
to soften, soothe and allow
to accept my imperfections
accept others’ too.
to grow in compassion for all
grow in compassion for self, too
sometimes anger flares
(i’ve seen through the gaslight layers)
reality distorted in inner life
heartbreak, anguish
self-centered strife
defuse reactions
maintain attention
cultivate intention
hold disconnection
await transformation
III.
are any of us really free
when one of us is bound?
we walk the world lost,
then found
we have to strengthen
underground
